200 Followers Giveaway

Take a wild guess what happened overnight. Yup, my blog has reached 200 followers while I was still fast asleep. And ya all know what this translates to, right?

It's time for a giveaway!!

And because it's quite a milestone I'm going to make it real special too - special as in AMAZON GIFTCARD and TWO WINNERS!!

On second thought, seeing how this giveaway will pretty much run alongside to next week's Midsummer's Eve Giveaway Hop I'm going to be daring and throw in a third winner in case I should reach 300 followers by the end of next week ... you never know, do you?

I'll be giving away two Amazon Giftcards worth $ 15,00 each
(or £ 9,00 in case you're from the UK/EU - winner(s) from more "exotic" places will receive $ 15,00 through Paypal, so they may spend the money in a local bookstore of their choice)

All you have to do is answer the following question and leave your e-mail address with your comment so I may contact you in case you're the winner.

The question:
Do you prefer paperbacks or hardcover books?

For this particular giveaway following my blog is obviously mandatory, after all it is thanks to my followers that I'm having it. Please make sure you follow me publicly through GFC, because otherwise I'm not able to check whether you really do follow or not. And yes, I will check!
One entry per person.
Open worldwide.

The giveaway is open from June 16th through June 25th - two winners will be picked through random.org on June 26th and will then be contacted by e-mail as well as announced here on my blog. The winners will have 48 hours to respond and if he/she fails to do so I will draw a new winner.

  1. i prefer paperbacks to hardcovers. i sometimes wait that extra time for the book to go to paperback even if it kills me doing so.

    GFC Lindsey

  2. I prefer hardcovers but very seldom buy them because of the cost.

However lots of people borrow books from me and paperbacks eventually end up getting rather tatty.

So I mostly have paperbacks but if they are books I want to keep I wish they could all be hard covers.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  3. I prefer paperbacks. I don't like plain hardcovers with dust jackets - mostly because my husband has a habit of taking them off the books when he reads and either losing them or squishing them!

    GFC Mystrez (cheriestokes@gmail.com)

  4. I don't mind either really, but I prefer paperbacks :) Easier to carry around and lighter. However, I do love the old fashioned hardbacks with yellow pages! :)

    GFC follower (Stephanie)

  5. I usually prefer paperbacks, because they are easier to carry around and flip through the pages... but when it comes to an album or a coffee-table book, definitely hardcover, because they look more classy :P.

    gfc name: doroffee

  6. paperbacks, because they're cheaper!

  7. Congrats on 200 Followers! And thanks for the giveaway! :)

I honestly ALWAYS change my mind on the PB vs HB...I love to collect HBs but I always buy paperbacks to read. I do a lot swapping so paperbacks are best for that.

    Donna :)

  8. Congrats on 200 followers, Birgit!!! :)
I do prefer paperbacks, as hardbacks get to be too heavy to carry around, and I'm always travelling with my books.

  9. Congrats on your 200+ followers and more to come, Birgit!:)

As for paperback vs hardback... I'm a bit torn.LOL I love the hardbacks, they look good on the shelves and they stay in good shape longer, but the paperbacks are more practical. Just like the girls said, they're easier to carry around and to flip through the pages.

Anyway, I always try to buy my favorite books in hardcover.

    Thank you for the giveaway!

  10. Congrats on 200 followers, and thanks for the giveaway!

I like the physical feel of holding books in my hand (so I hate e-books), so I guess hardbacks are my favorite. Since I buy most of my books used or on sale, though, I usually prefer paperbacks because of their cost.

susanna DOT pyatt AT student DOT rcsnc DOT org

  11. I prefer trade paperbacks. They are easier to hold than hardbacks but I think they look nicer than a mass market paperback.

  12. Paperbacks definately. I do most of my reading very early in the morning with a large cat upside down in my lap. Makes it difficult to hold up and read a hard back over 4 legs sticking straight up!! I'm too much of a softie to make her move :)

  13. Typically, I prefer paperback, because they are SO much easier to flip the pages, I think that for a gift hardback is better though :)

  14. I prefer hardcover books because they are more sturdy, but price wise i prefer paperback. So it really depends if the hardcover is on sale ii'd take it over the paper back. Thanks for the giveaway and congrats on reaching 200 followers!

  15. Thanks for the giveaway, and congrats on hitting 200 followers! I don't really have a preference, but because of my cheap Asian-ness I almost always buy paperback lol. But if a hardcover happens to be cheaper I'll definitely buy it :) I usually don't care too much about the condition of the book, as long as it's readable, but I'm always terrified of having paperback covers bend and then you have this big white crease in the middle of the cover.

  16. -Yay for reaching 200 Followers! Congrats! Hopefully you do reach to 300! :D

I enjoy hardcovers over paperback at times. Hardcovers have gorgeous covers that look good in my little bookshelf. But then again, paperbacks are lighter and are easier to carry around. Plus, they are cheaper! I prefer hardcover, but I'll still take paperback without a doubt. :D

  17. Congrats on your 200 followers!

I prefer to read paperbacks. They are easier to hold and are easier to carry around wherever I want to take them. I do prefer hardcovers though if it is a signed copy :)

  18. Congrats on 200 followers! Yay!

I usually prefer paperbacks, as they pack better! Some genres seem to mostly come in hardback (such as the Civil War books I read), so I have equal amounts of both.

    aprimeau at onebearcat dot com

  19. Congrats on the followers! I am an old GFC one. :)

I prefer hardback because they last longer. I read and re-read books so much that some of my old paperbacks are very sad looking.

  20. Trade paperbacks are my utmost favorites. For some reason, they are just so much more aesthetically pleasing than either mass market paperbacks or hard covers. Plus, they're way lighter than a hardback. The only drawback is that they get bent corners so easily!

  21. New follower:)

Hardbacks for me! They fill bigger and cooler XD I love having big books at my hands and if i ever get an awesome library for my house, they will look better without the covers (since you can remove it) with simple black, red, white colors :)

And i forgot my email :P

  22. I follow your blog, thanks for the giveaway.
Hardcover books look nicer, but paperback books are easier to carry. I can't prefer which one :)

    annabell_lee_dk (at) yahoo.com

  23. A big congratulations on getting to 200 followers. I hope you keep up the good work and thanks for this awesome giveaway!!

I prefer hardcover books because they don't damage as easily and look nicer! However, paperbacks are way cheaper so I normally buy them instead. To be honest, in the end, as long as the book is enjoyable to read I don't mind!

  24. First of all, congratulations on reaching 200 followers!

I used to prefer paperback books, but since I like reading new releases and most of them are hardcovers-- I've gotten used to them. Now I like hardcovers, but I still get paperback copies for older books or adult/mass-market ones.

  25. Hum... I guess I do prefer paperbacks. They are not only cheaper, but smaller and easier to carry around/fit in bookcase. But I like to get my favorites in hardcover, though. :P

  26. Congratulations! Your blog is going great.

About your question: it depends what book we're talking about - I love a hardback of a beautifully written book that I plan to keep for a long time. But if it's a book that I buy just for the story (like Mockingjay) I prefer paperback, before it's easier to handle.

Thanks for the giveaway, I'd love to be entered please.

  29. Sorry I didn't get to see the mandatory question!
I prefer Hardback yes! it is just much better than paperback.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  30. I prefer hardcovers, they look better, i don't mind if I have to pay a bit more for it.

  31. I like paperback. I never really liked hardback even before. sorry for missing this mandatory entry. thanks for emailing me.

  32. Oppsie! I prefer a Hardback cause I like it hard LOL

  33. I prefer paperbacks. I find them much easier to read on the train (which is where i do a lot of my reading) and usually smaller to stuff in my bag.

    I prefer hardcover :)

  36. Congrats on the big 200! New follower here ;)

I prefer paperback books because (and I KNOW you will all hate me for this) I'm a spine bender. All of my favourite books are dog-eared and worn, their covers so faded in some cases that the titles are now nothing more than a mysterious blur.

I think there are few things in life as satisfying as getting a new book and breaking in the pristine spine. Then I know it is my own!

  37. Hardback lover, this is me:D

I prefer hardcover books because paperbacks are much easier to damage.

  41. I prefer paperbacks because they're much more affordable, and they're easier to carry around, but I find hardcovers much longer-lasting!

Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  42. Okay, I hope this isn't against the rules, but the honest answer is BOTH.

I love books - and both paperbacks and hardcovers have their own advantages. Paperbacks are easier to carry, and usually lighter. They are often possible to hold in one hand.

But spines don't crack on hardcovers; they are more likely to lay flat on a hard surface, and they just look so beautiful. So I love them both - and I buy either.

I am a follower through GFC (lostwanderer5) and Facebook (DollyGarland).

    Thanks for doing this :-)

  43. I prefer paperbacks as they are easier to read in the bath :)

  45. I prefer hardcovers, but i own more paperbacks cause they are cheaper and easier to carry around. Thanks for the giveaway :-)

  46. I prefer hardcovers. They look and feel so much better (and last so much longer) than paperbacks.
    thanks for the giveaway!

    cris_mv at hotmail dot com

  47. Hm... I really don't know. I love paperbacks, because it is sitter to bring to other places :) But hardcovers don't destroy, because they are hard :) When I look at it... I choose book by official cover :) Sometimes paperbacks have better covers like hardcovers :)

  48. Me again! I should be back on the 28th, unless something changes while we're there (visiting friends and family in South Wales), although it shouldn't but if it does I won't have much computer access.

Anyway, following on gfc as Hannah/Jaedia.
As for my answer, to look at, I prefer hardbacks. They look much nicer on the bookshelf. However, to read I much prefer paperbacks because they don't cause quite so much hand cramp! I'll always choose reading comfort over my bookshelf looking a little prettier any day ^^

    jaedia @ live. co.uk

  49. Following you as Bestcritic(ReviewCarnival). I like hardcovers more, because they feel 'thicker'. But I love paperbacks, too.

  50. I follow via GFC (Aubrey Charlebois) I prefer hardback books because they hold up so much better but I do love that soft cover are so much cheaper, but all in all, I'd have to say hardback!!

    littlegray88 at yahoo dot com

  51. Congrats on hitting 200! I'm still striving for my 100 mark :)

I love harback because it is just so pretty and "official." But paperback is much easier to tote around and snuggle with. Is it bad that I am purely on the fence?

    jennimerritt.writing (at) gmail (dot) com

  52. I prefer hardback. I almost always buy paperback though because of the cost and because they take up less space.

  53. i wouldnt mind the covering because im more of after the book literally. although hardcovers are pretty awesome, i wouldnt mind paperbacks as they are cheaper too

  62. I prefer hardcovers because for paperbacks, they can get ruined easily, especially when I lend my books to my friends. For hardcovers, I take off the actual cover and give my friends the book, so that way the cover doesn't get ruined (:

  63. i like that hardcover spines dont break like paperbacks, but paperbacks are usually smaller and lighter

But my books are my babies so I have to take care of them. ^_^ Sorry for the paragraph lol.

  75. I like paperbacks because they bend easier and are lighter so my purse isn't so heavy!

  78. I prefer books with the prettiest cover, I don't care if they're HC or paperback.

  79. I like to get hardcovers for keeper books/authors and paperback for the rest.

  80. I mostly like hardcovers...they are more durable and I tend to put my books through their paces...you should see my original Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Even being a hardcover didn't save it from a cracked spine, pages 53-108 from falling out, and the enormous chocolate fingerprint on page 33l...lol

Thanks for the giveaway and congrats on getting 200/300 followers! :D

  81. Congrats on gaining 200+ followers and hope you gain many more!

As for your question of PB vs HC, honestly I'm torn. They both have their pros and cons.

  88. I definitely prefer hardcover because they are more sturdy and collectible. However, paperbacks are cheaper so I tend to buy most books in paperback:)

  89. First of all, congrats for reaching 200! Yay!!!

I know they are a lot more expensive but they seem to hold up better with a lot of handling. My kids love to read them too and kids are hard on them sometimes. I buy most of my books used in new condition for under $5 at Thriftbooks.com and free shipping so in the long run it saves me money. I just bought 7 books all for $3.50 each with free shipping and you would think they were all new books. Your almost at 300 followers congrats~!

  96. I prefer hardcovers to own because they are so great, with so nice covers, but they are more expensive. So I usually buy paperbacks and they have some advantages too. They are lighter to carry and cheaper. I like both. :)

As for my preference, I prefer paperbacks because they are lighter to carry around because I'm always carrying books with me! But when it comes to books I really like I can buy it in the hardback to keep it in nice condition and my family always buy me hardbacks when it comes to birthdays and christmas :)

  103. Woop woop, happy 200 followers or should I say Happy 300 followers as your nearly there.

I really don't have a peference of either paperback or hardback, however if i'm collecting a series I like them either to be all hardback or all paperback :)

  104. I love both. The plus side on hard cover is that you don't bend the cover. The plus side on paperback is they are generally smaller and you can fit more in the bookcase. I usually buy a laminant paper and cover the paperbacks anyway.

    ke7yca at gmail dot com

  105. I prefer paperbacks for the sake of shelf space, and some of the larger hardcovers are just murder on my already keyboard-crippled wrists. A hardcover is nice for posterity, though.

  106. Well you are almost to 300 now! 295 a few minutes ago. Congratulations! And yes I am one of them!

As for the question...why do I have to like one more than the other? They both have good pts. The hardbacks last longer. Paperbacks are easier to carry around. If I absolutely have to choose(meanie!) I will go with paperbacks..because I can fit more of them on my shelves!

If I am going to keep a book on my shelves, I prefer a hardback. If it is one that I will read and then pass to a friend or not keep, I get a paperback.

I must admit that some of the paperback covers right now though are very collection worthy. They just don't stand up to the shelf wear as well.

  133. I've generally always preferred Hardcover books, but for some reason, I'm liking trade paperbacks more and more.

  134. Paperbacks are much easier to carry around and I think they look better on a shelf.

  135. I prefer paperbacks because they are not as heavy, even if they might not last as long.

  136. Paperbacks as they're more affordable for me. I have a BAD book buying habit.
Congrats on the 200 Follower; I see you now have over 300.

  137. I like the affordability of paperbacks but I tend to re-read books that I love and that doesn't bode well for paperbacks so all my favorites are hardcover.

  138. I VERY much prefer Hardcovers because I like the feel of them more, and they make great collections and im scared that paperbacks rip too easily =)

  140. I'd have to say hardcover. They just look prettier on my bookshelf. Not very portable though.

Thanks for the giveaway! Congrats on so many followers!

  141. I like paperbacks better. They're cheaper but hardbacks are more comfortable to read.

  142. I prefer hardcover books (but for economical reasons, I mostly buy paperbacks). The reason I love my hardcovers is because I can leave them lying open on my desk and walk away without fear of having the book snap shut. I also love the neat way they sit on my bookshelf:)

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  143. I prefer paperbacks because I can carry them anywhere.

  144. I like hardbacks, more durable, and I don't buy books that often, so when I do, it's something I love or really really want, so I want it to be the best. :)

  145. Definitely paperbacks cause 1HB=4 PB

  146. I have to say it depends on the book. For certain collections or authors, I want hardback. But for others, paperback makes it easier to carry around and/or pass on to others. Some books that I like only COME in paperback, or were first published that way, and I am OCD in that if I am starting a collection hardback or paperback, I want it to be consistent all the way through.

  147. I read more paperbacks and ebooks these days.

I prefer hardbacks because it helps prevent the covers from curling up. It gives the book a "new book" look even if it is old.

I don't really care hardback or paperback, but if I'm purchasing I do prefer hardback because my kids can't destroy them as easily.

  151. I like to buy paperbacks because they are cheaper (I need to save money) and you can bend it. With a hardback, it is stiff and it gets tiring for my hands to hold it.

  152. I prefer hardcovers 'cause in this way books are unlikely to ruin :) even if I spend a lot... but if it's a book I want to try and don't know if I'll like it, I'm ok with paperback too.

  153. I like hardcovers. I find it difficult not to crease my paperbacks spines and I hate creased spines.

  154. I prefer paperbacks. The are easier to handle and cheaper than hardbacks.

  155. I like hardbacks for their looks and paperbacks for their comfort! So it's really difficult for me to choose one...but I think I'll go for paperbacks.

  156. I definitely prefer hardbacks because they're so gorgeous but paperbacks are more affordable.

  157. I prefer hardcover books (though they are more expensive and heavier) because they don't get easily damaged, and they look better than paperbacks.

  158. Congrats on 200 heres to many more! as for whether I prefer paperback or hardcover. Thats a tough one cause I used to just love paperbacks but I am liking Hardcovers especially when lying in bed.

For my personal collection I prefer hardback books. But for everyday carrying around and reading I prefer paperbacks, they are lighter and generally smaller.

  162. i prefer hardbacks though i don't have all THAT many. cause they get less messed up.

  163. Ah, thank you for pointing out my error :)

NOW to actually answer the question: Hands down, I prefer hardback books. They look nice on my book shelf :) And they are pretty hard to cause much harm to. I love getting hardbacks from the library because I know I can put it in my bag and not worry about bending the corners.

  164. I prefer paperback but there's some books that I will buy in hardback because I don't want to wait for them to come out in paperback.

  165. I prefer paperbacks because I can't get comfortable reading hardcover books. Also, I usually read on my lunch break at work and it's much easier to hold a paperback in one hand and eat with the other.

  166. I love hardcover books especially with dust jackets, however; they take up a ton more space and weigh more (makes the beach bag or work bag pretty heavy to drag around). I'm also one of those that has to have the series in the same format--I cannot, in good conscious, own a series with both hardcover and paperback books...lol.

  167. I love hardcovers, but paperbacks fit into my every day bag so those are what I normally by. It's just nice to have the heft of a hardcopy book sometimes, so I get those from the library.

  168. Paperback for me, lighter, and easier to fit into purse :) And you can see your progress easier then on hardcover :)

  169. Paperbacks. Strangely enough, because I buy hardback for their longevity I tend to treat them with kid gloves. Meanwhile paperbacks can take a bit of rough handling and give you your money's worth.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  170. Of the two choices I prefer paperback. I rarely read a hardback anymore. I can take a paperback in my bag or breifcase - it's lighter! :-)
Thanks for the giveaway and Congrats on your followers - now you are pushing 400! Keep up the good work and have fun.

  171. +Followed.

I actually prefer paperbacks. I know a lot people don't like paparback because they're easier to rip or fall apart. But that's actually the exact reason WHY I like paperback. It shows that the novel has been read, that it has a past. I like for my books to be written in and have notes in the margins. And actually when I let a friend barrow a book, I recommend that they leave notes in my books, or underline lines or paragraphs they really like.

  172. I prefer paperbacks because they're easier for my tiny hands to hold. :) Handcovers don't fit in my purse either so I tend to avoid them.

  173. Generally I prefer paperbacks, because they are easier to fit in a purse. But, if it is a particular favorite that I enjoy reading over and over again I might splurge for the hardcover, so the binding doesn't come undone :)

  174. I prefer hardcovers because they tend to hold up better than paperbacks. But in the end price wins out, and paperbacks are cheaper. So, paperback are normally what I get and have more of.

  175. Hm... Tough question!
I think the hardcovers are more beautiful, can last for more time.
But the paperback is easy to travel with and, being cheaper, I can buy more books! Hehehe

    So I would say paperback!

  176. If its a series I love then hardback. Otherwise paperback because they are more convient and CHEAP!

  177. I honestly don't care so long as if it is a series all the covers match accordingly. It drives me nuts when a series starts out paperback and then switches to hardback a few books in. Grrr...

    Thank you!

  178. I prefer hardcovers because they're easier to resell when I'm done with them.

  179. I prefer Paperbacks myself :) But it also depends on the books.. for example my Eragon series which is like 500+ pages per book I'd prefer hardback because its such a heavy book and I'm sure the pages would rip if it was paperback... but books under 350 pages? I'd take paperback/kindle version anyday :)
