200 Followers Giveaway

Take a wild guess what happened overnight. Yup, my blog has reached 200 followers while I was still fast asleep. And ya all know what this translates to, right?

It's time for a giveaway!!

And because it's quite a milestone I'm going to make it real special too - special as in AMAZON GIFTCARD and TWO WINNERS!!

On second thought, seeing how this giveaway will pretty much run alongside to next week's Midsummer's Eve Giveaway Hop I'm going to be daring and throw in a third winner in case I should reach 300 followers by the end of next week ... you never know, do you?

I'll be giving away two Amazon Giftcards worth $ 15,00 each
(or £ 9,00 in case you're from the UK/EU - winner(s) from more "exotic" places will receive $ 15,00 through Paypal, so they may spend the money in a local bookstore of their choice)

All you have to do is answer the following question and leave your e-mail address with your comment so I may contact you in case you're the winner.

The question:
Do you prefer paperbacks or hardcover books?

Rules
For this particular giveaway following my blog is obviously mandatory, after all it is thanks to my followers that I'm having it. Please make sure you follow me publicly through GFC, because otherwise I'm not able to check whether you really do follow or not. And yes, I will check!
One entry per person.
Open worldwide.

Winner

The giveaway is open from June 16th through June 25th - two winners will be picked through random.org on June 26th and will then be contacted by e-mail as well as announced here on my blog. The winners will have 48 hours to respond and if he/she fails to do so I will draw a new winner.

  1. i prefer paperbacks to hardcovers. i sometimes wait that extra time for the book to go to paperback even if it kills me doing so.

  2. I prefer hardcovers but very seldom buy them because of the cost.

However lots of people borrow books from me and paperbacks eventually end up getting rather tatty.

So I mostly have paperbacks but if they are books I want to keep I wish they could all be hard covers.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  3. I prefer paperbacks. I don't like plain hardcovers with dust jackets - mostly because my husband has a habit of taking them off the books when he reads and either losing them or squishing them!

  5. I usually prefer paperbacks, because they are easier to carry around and flip through the pages... but when it comes to an album or a coffee-table book, definitely hardcover, because they look more classy :P.

I honestly ALWAYS change my mind on the PB vs HB...I love to collect HBs but I always buy paperbacks to read. I do a lot swapping so paperbacks are best for that.

As for paperback vs hardback... I'm a bit torn.LOL I love the hardbacks, they look good on the shelves and they stay in good shape longer, but the paperbacks are more practical. Just like the girls said, they're easier to carry around and to flip through the pages.

Anyway, I always try to buy my favorite books in hardcover.

    Thank you for the giveaway!

  10. Congrats on 200 followers, and thanks for the giveaway!

I like the physical feel of holding books in my hand (so I hate e-books), so I guess hardbacks are my favorite. Since I buy most of my books used or on sale, though, I usually prefer paperbacks because of their cost.

  12. Paperbacks definately. I do most of my reading very early in the morning with a large cat upside down in my lap. Makes it difficult to hold up and read a hard back over 4 legs sticking straight up!! I'm too much of a softie to make her move :)

  13. Typically, I prefer paperback, because they are SO much easier to flip the pages, I think that for a gift hardback is better though :)

  14. I prefer hardcover books because they are more sturdy, but price wise i prefer paperback. So it really depends if the hardcover is on sale ii'd take it over the paper back. Thanks for the giveaway and congrats on reaching 200 followers!

  15. Thanks for the giveaway, and congrats on hitting 200 followers! I don't really have a preference, but because of my cheap Asian-ness I almost always buy paperback lol. But if a hardcover happens to be cheaper I'll definitely buy it :) I usually don't care too much about the condition of the book, as long as it's readable, but I'm always terrified of having paperback covers bend and then you have this big white crease in the middle of the cover.

I enjoy hardcovers over paperback at times. Hardcovers have gorgeous covers that look good in my little bookshelf. But then again, paperbacks are lighter and are easier to carry around. Plus, they are cheaper! I prefer hardcover, but I'll still take paperback without a doubt. :D

I usually prefer paperbacks, as they pack better! Some genres seem to mostly come in hardback (such as the Civil War books I read), so I have equal amounts of both.

  20. Trade paperbacks are my utmost favorites. For some reason, they are just so much more aesthetically pleasing than either mass market paperbacks or hard covers. Plus, they're way lighter than a hardback. The only drawback is that they get bent corners so easily!

Hardbacks for me! They fill bigger and cooler XD I love having big books at my hands and if i ever get an awesome library for my house, they will look better without the covers (since you can remove it) with simple black, red, white colors :)

About your question: it depends what book we're talking about - I love a hardback of a beautifully written book that I plan to keep for a long time. But if it's a book that I buy just for the story (like Mockingjay) I prefer paperback, before it's easier to handle.

I prefer paperback books because (and I KNOW you will all hate me for this) I'm a spine bender. All of my favourite books are dog-eared and worn, their covers so faded in some cases that the titles are now nothing more than a mysterious blur.

I think there are few things in life as satisfying as getting a new book and breaking in the pristine spine. Then I know it is my own!

  42. Okay, I hope this isn't against the rules, but the honest answer is BOTH.

I love books - and both paperbacks and hardcovers have their own advantages. Paperbacks are easier to carry, and usually lighter. They are often possible to hold in one hand.

But spines don't crack on hardcovers; they are more likely to lay flat on a hard surface, and they just look so beautiful. So I love them both - and I buy either.

I really don't have a peference of either paperback or hardback, however if i'm collecting a series I like them either to be all hardback or all paperback :)

  104. I love both. The plus side on hard cover is that you don't bend the cover. The plus side on paperback is they are generally smaller and you can fit more in the bookcase. I usually buy a laminant paper and cover the paperbacks anyway.

As for the question...why do I have to like one more than the other? They both have good pts. The hardbacks last longer. Paperbacks are easier to carry around. If I absolutely have to choose(meanie!) I will go with paperbacks..because I can fit more of them on my shelves!

If I am going to keep a book on my shelves, I prefer a hardback. If it is one that I will read and then pass to a friend or not keep, I get a paperback.

I must admit that some of the paperback covers right now though are very collection worthy. They just don't stand up to the shelf wear as well.

I actually prefer paperbacks. I know a lot people don't like paparback because they're easier to rip or fall apart. But that's actually the exact reason WHY I like paperback. It shows that the novel has been read, that it has a past. I like for my books to be written in and have notes in the margins. And actually when I let a friend barrow a book, I recommend that they leave notes in my books, or underline lines or paragraphs they really like.
