Dreaming of Books Hop

Welcome to the
Dreaming of Books Hop
(January 13th - January 18th)
hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer & Reviews by Martha's Bookshelf

What is a giveaway hop? That's simple. Each participating blog hosts a giveaway and then we link up together allowing our followers to hop easily from one giveaway to another. For followers this means lots of chances to win free books and other goodies. For blogs hosting a giveaway it means lots of new visitors and followers. It's a win-win!

And now …
… curious about what you can win?

Once again I'm getting a bit more creative than simple giving away a book. Seeing how this Hop is dedicated to dreaming what could be more appropriate than a pillow on which you can rest your head while reading (or sleeping, for that matter). Long story short - I'm giving away your choice of any bookish Throw Pillow worth $ 20,00 from CafePress. These pillows measure 18'' x 18'' and are made of ultra-soft brushed twill with a sturdy canvas image area.
Please note: I am in no way affiliated with Cafepress, I just happen to like the stuff they sell. Also, I will have the prize shipped to the winner directly through Cafepress to save on additional shipping costs.

All you have to do is answer the following question and leave your e-mail address with your comment so I may contact you in case you're the winner.

The question:
What kind of books keep you up at night?

Following my blog is no requirement, but greatly appreciated.
One entry per person.
Open worldwide.

One winner will be picked through random.org on January 19th and will then be contacted by e-mail as well as announced here on my blog. The winner will have 48 hours to respond and if he/she fails to do so I will draw a new winner.

And now, head on over to the rest of the blog hop participants!

  1. Long ones.

. . .See that's meant to be a joke because if they were short I wouldn't need to stay up reading them. But honestly, I get lost in books really easily and have spent many a night when I SHOULD have been sleeping for various reasons, predominantly the need to get up early the next day, instead finishing a book. Though series in particular keep me up, because I usually get more involved in the characters lives.
Thanks for the giveaway!! Those pillows seem pretty awesome.

  2. Your giveaways are so fun, Birgit! When I read your question, the first answer that popped into my head was SCARY ONES! Of course, I don't read too many scary ones, but if I do, I try not to read them when it's dark lol. But other books that keep me up at night are just the really good ones that I just can't put down for something so ordinary as SLEEP. :)

  3. Family sagas - I never know what the next person is going to do - always its something totally surprising.

  4. Long books, especially those with more than 500 pages, mostly with younger main characters and full of family history and drama :)

  5. those page turners!

those which have something big happening at pretty much everypage,

or if I'm already finishing the book, might as well fit in a couple more pages

  11. OMG, what a great gift idea!
Well ,to answer your question, I don't have a particular genre, in fact, I might get scared reading thrillers at night, but any book which I find amazing may keep me up; the last one was The Orange Girl, by J. Gaarder. What an incredible love story!

The first book that came to mind when I read your question was "Pet Sematary" by Stephen King. I not only could not go to sleep, I also refused to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night it was that frightening!

    rikki at rikkidonovan.com

  27. If they're long with huge cliffhangers I usually can't stop myself :P Or if they're super scary or creepy, then I can't sleep.

    thriftshopgrrl AT hotmail DOT com

    aliasgirl at libero dot it

  29. Haha, I love how you stuck to the theme!

All kinds of books! I'd much, much rather read than sleep. As long as they have a fast-paced plot and/or beautiful prose with interesting characters, I'm hooked. Most recently it was Stray by Rachel Vincent.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

    kalopez471 at gmail dot com

  42. Most fiction books keep me up if the story is interesting enough as I can't wait to find out what will happen next. Definitely not my textbooks though, those really are my bedtime stories LOL

  46. Wow, what a fabulous giveaway! I'll have to get me one of those pillows, for my friends too :)

To answer your question. Definitely paranormal fantasy, ya novels... The last one keeping me up way toooooooo long was the Gathering by Kelley Armstrong, I really needed to know how it ended! I was mad I can't read the sequel for a while... No use to mention my workmates weren't happy with me the next day LOL

  47. This is an interesting question. I don't have a specific genre that keeps me up at night reading but I would say books where there are no dull patches keep me reading late.
Also sometimes books that I don't like very much keep me reading because I want to finish them otherwise I spend hours thinking about them.

  48. For me the answer to that question is any book that I've been waiting for a long time to get. I remember when the last Harry Potter book came out, I bought it on the first day, read it all through the day and throughout the night. Literally, non stop I just loved it so much. I've done the same to the Mortal Instruments series too lol

m-hussein at hotmail dot co dot uk

  49. I would say books like the stand by stephen king, (I was working with the federal goverment on pandemic planning. I kid you not, a high up general, said he had a cover planned to call it anthrax. That one still keeps me up at night) The road by cormac maccarthy is another one that bothers me.

  50. The kind of books that keep me up at night are the ones that I can't put down! The last two books that kept me up at night (reading them) were Cinder by Marissa Meyer and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Yes, they are fairly far apart, time-wise, but I love my sleep.

    Email: puieread@yahoo.com

  60. Long books. I don't mind if's a series, but I like to have a real ending :) So those never-ending series (Anita Blake?) are not for me. I read romance, crime, ya, adult, mistery, sci-fi....basically anything as long the story and the writing is good :)

What kind of books keep me up at night?
Dystopian books with enough truth to them to make them plausible. Hunger Games, Life as We Knew It, etc.. These books feed my conspiracy theory obsession and freakish nature.

  87. There are many different types of books that can keep me up at night, but these don't really follow any particular pattern. If it's a particularly good book, then I will have to fight with myself to go to sleep and not stay up all night reading. This has happened quite a lot recently. Particularly with Gail Carriger's Soulless and Michelle Hodkin's The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer.

However, there is one book that has given me nightmares. That is The Rapture by Liz Jensen! I was terrified by the ending of this book!

Thanks for the giveaway - this is the best one I've seen so far!
